On 16 March, the exhibition of 100 years of symbols of Czech statehood was launched in the historical premises of the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. As part of the project "Roots of Czech Statehood", it was realised by the Head of the Department of Social Sciences at Faculty of Civil Engineering, doc. Dr. Ing. Václav Liška, LL.M., MBA, and Head of the Department of Music Theory at HAMU, doc. Mgr. MgA. Jiří Bezděk, Ph.D.
CTU students joined the #vyjdiven! nationwide student strike at Dejvice Campus on Thursday 15 March. The event was attended by around 900 students supported by their teachers. The aim of the event was to challenge public officials to defend constitutional and social customs and values.
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) company published the QS World Rankings by Subject 2018 On 28 February. It offers one of the most comprehensive international comparisons of scientific disciplines. In the last edition of the ranking, CTU has been assessed in 25 cases out of total of 48th and ranked among 500 world's best universities this year.
The Dean of the Chapter, P. ICLic Mgr. Ondrej Pávka met with representatives of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at the Metropolitan chapter of St. Vitus in Prague. The main point of the program was evaluation of the fulfillment of the cooperation agreement in the assessment of the technical condition of the Zikmund bell in the cathedral of St. Vítus, Wenceslass and Vojtech at the Prague Castle.
On Wednesday, 7 March, another meeting of CTU graduates - Alumni took place. Members of the Mensa club of the Czech Republic, prof. Ing. Tomáš Čechák, CSc., and doc. Ing. Tomáš Trojka, Ph.D. attended the event as it included a lacture on exploration of the Saint Maur's Relic. This national cultural monument was completely renovated in 2002 and the public can see it at the chateau in Bečov nad Teplou.
On 27 February, the inauguration ceremony of the new Rector of the Czech Technical University, doc. RNDr. Vojtech Petráček, CSc. and deans of four CTU faculties took place in Betlehem Chapel.
At the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, the first virtual radiotherapy simulator in the Czech Republic was installed and put into operation. The VERTUAL VERT™ system from the British Consortium VERTUAL allows for creation of a virtual environment for the radiotherapy facility. The system provides 3D imaging and visualization with a platform to illustrate theoretical concepts as well as support for clinical staff in acquiring their skills or showing a course of treatment for the patient. The one Installatied at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering is not only first in the Czech Republic, but even one of the few in continental Europe. On 26 and 27 February, the faculty was trained by a foreign specialist, one of the major developers of the VERT™ system. Within a few days, students will be able to use this completely unique system under the guidance of teachers. In addition to the theoretical teaching at classes, the curriculum of the Radiology Physicist and Radiology Technician study field also includes clinical practice under the guidance of top specialists, mostly faculty graduates.
The results of the 20th annual Werner von Siements Prize were announced on 22 February. The Czech branch of Siemens awarded projects in the field of technical and science disciplines in seven categories, including a special prize for overcoming barriers to study and prizes for the best female dissertation. One million crowns were distributed among the winners with two representatives among them from CTU in Prague.
The unique collaboration between the private and academic sectors will contribute to development of aerospace industry in the Czech Republic and will consolidate CTU's position in Industry 4.0. Thanks to the combination of GE's special software and CTU's technical know-how, CTU students will be able to process terabytes of data from turboprop engine testing and compare it with the theoretical model in real-time. GE Aviation has signed a cooperation agreement with the CTU that will enable the Center for Advanced Aerospace Research based at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to acquire knowledge and digital models of twin modern turboprop engine to research individual monitoring system of operation and predictive maintenance of aircraft engines. Given this opportunity to improve the education of its students in the research of the manufacturing technologies of the future, CTU is the first university in Central and Eastern Europe that GE has chosen for such close cooperation.
In September 2017, the book Prague unbuilt was published by CTU Publishing House. Klára Brůhová from the Faculty of Architecture presents architectural designs that never happened from the end of the 19th century to the times of the First Republic. At present, more than half of the copies has been sold out, and the book's topic is also engulfed by the media.
