The CTU University Centre of Energy-Efficient Buildings christened the first prototype of the WAVE micro-powerplant on 1June. These household powerplants will offer cheap electricity generated from biomass. Christening of the equipment, awarded with the best idea prize in the Ecological Oscar competition in 2015, was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Bělobrádek. The prototype development has been long supported by the E.ON power company.
The weekly excursion to the Czech power plants and related installations for students of the Electrical engineering, Energetics and Management study program was organized by the department of Economics, Management and Humanities of Faculty of Electrical Engineering on 23 May. Seventeen first-year graduate students attended the event.
Within the celebration of the 700th anniversary of birth of Charles IV, CTU signed a Memorandum of Understanding and related cooperation agreement with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven at Charles University. Both documents specify conditions of the planned cooperation activities. The contract covers cooperation in science and research, particularly on joint projects from the Horizon 2020 program.
The 7th annual Czech-Slovak student scientific conference on physics was held at Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering on 23 through 24 May. Within its framework, best bachelor’s and master's theses of students were announced. Total of 54 theses from eight universities had entered the competition. A collection of the best in physics by Czech and Slovak universities.
Student of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Peter Chalupianský, devised and implemented a unique charity project called “Where is Pete?”. As part of his study program, the Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering and Management, he conducted a semester stay at Kyungpook National University in South Korea. Via his blog, in collaboration with the Konto BARIÉRY foundation, he sends special postcards from your trip. The revenue helps handicaped children.
The staff of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Polytechnic College of Jihlava joined their knowledge and experience to cooperate in a global project, Living Heart. Its ambitions is to become one of the key breakthroughs in the world of medicine. An accurate 3D model accelerates research and testing facilities for the heart disease treatment.
The conference STARGATE - The Innovation Day was held on 23 May in Vienna, hosted by the iHUB online platform. Stargate is a network of European iHUB platforms, incubators and accelerators, working together in the EU. The CTU InovaJET incubator is also its member.
During the penultimate weekend of May, a college tournament named BEST Beograd 2016 was held in Belgrade. In a very strong competition of 920 students from 21 universities in 10 countries and 2 continents, a group of seven athletes from CTU managed to achieve the overall victory.
Visitors of the exhibition “A Century of information - the computer world”, opening of which was held on 19 May at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague, can view the display of 400 kinds of Czechoslovak and foreign computers from 70s and 80s which come from private collection of Petr Váradi of Stara Paka.
The Startup Festival took place at the premises of the University of Economics in Prague on 11 May. Within its framework, the CTU Business Incubator InovaJET introduced the FIWARE software platform.
