Institut Europeum has issued a publication "Assessment of current state, past experiences and potential for CCS deployment in the CEE region", which provides an interesting overview of the highly topical topic of carbon capture and storage/utilization (CCS/U) in the Czech Republic, i.e. technologies for capturing and storing or using CO2 from energy processes.
The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FBMI), specifically its scientists Dr. Ondřej Fišer, Ing. Tomáš Pokorný and doc. David Vrba from the Bioelectromagnetism research team, are collaborating with physicians from the Cardiology Clinic of the Královské Vinohrady University Hospital (FNKV) and the Karlovy Vary Regional Hospital to improve the success and safety of catheterisation closure of the left atrial appendage.
It was developed by the Faculty of Information Technology of CTU (FIT CTU) Ing. Pavel Tůma as a student of his thesis based on open data. IsirExplorer also provides statistics on the insolvency process that have not been available to the public so far. The project was created under the Open Data Laboratory of the FIT CTU with the support of the non-profit organization Hlídač státu (Government Watchman)
The Faculty of Information Technology of the CTU in Prague (FIT CTU) launches a new technology podcast called Ones and Zeros. The very first episode is dedicated to a current topic - drones and their use. The host of the podcast is the well-known science popularizer Sara Polak, whose task is to interview experts from FIT CTU once a month and answer questions from the world of IT together. The faculty launched the podcast thematically on 10 October, 2021.

On October 14, 2021, the Masaryk College of the CTU in Prague, under the auspices of the Rector doc. RNDr. Vojtěch Petráček, CSc., and Police President Maj. Gen. Jan Švejdar, the Soft Goals II 2021 conference organized by the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of CTU in cooperation with the Czech branch of AFCEA and the Chamber of Commercial Security Enterprises.
Students of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of CTU with a team of like-minded colleagues built the Next Zone coworking centre in the heart of Prague, which was inaugurated on 7 October 2021. Petr Štěpánek, Patrik Seidl and Josef Hnízdo, students of the bachelor's degree in Information and Communication Technologies in Medicine, created a space where young budding innovators can meet, discuss and create.
On Thursday 7 October 2021, the Multirobotic Systems Group from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEL) presented a new drone autonomously firing a fire extinguishing capsule, which is able to intervene very quickly in case of fire in multi-storey buildings in Brandýs nad Labem - Stará Boleslav. During the experiment, which was conducted in cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region Fire Rescue Corps, researchers tested the drone during a mock intervention with a split fire in an abandoned building.
Two teams from two Czech universities met in the representative premises of the CTU to receive the European Citizen Award in person. Researchers from the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics of CTU in Prague (CIIRC CTU) have already won the award in 2020 for the protective half-mask "CIIRC RP95-3D". For the year 2021, the award went to the Brno Volunteer Centre of Masaryk University for the MUNI HELPS project. The teams received their medals at a ceremony on Monday 11 October 2021 from Dita Charanzová, Vice President of the European Parliament (EP) and Chancellor of the European Citizen Award, after pandemic restrictions made it impossible to hold the event earlier.
At the trilateral science conference "German-Polish-Czech Science Platform", Prof. Dr. Vladimir Mařík, scientific director of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and DFKI CEO Prof. Dr. Antonio Krüger signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The ceremony took place in Dresden on Oct. 8, 2021, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Lukas, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Petr Očko, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, DFKI Chief Executive Advisor.
Prof. Stephen Mark Barnett from the University of Glasgow, UK, and Prof. Wolfgang Peter Schleich from the University of Ulm, Germany, received honorary doctorates (Dr. h. c.) from the Czech Technical University in Prague at the ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council on 5 October 2021 in Bethlehem Chapel. They were nominated by the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of CTU in Prague (FJFI) and the doctorate was presented to both of them by Prof. Igor Jex, Dean of FJFI.
