The CTU in Prague has achieved another historic success - for the first time in history of measuring university quality in the prestigious QS World University Rankings it has reached the Top 400. Compared to last year, it improved by 25 places and took 378th place out of this year's total of 2,642 ranked universities.

CTU in Prague is continuously improving its position in international comparison. It has improved the most of all Czech universities this year - and at the same time it is ranked among the top 400 universities in the world. According to the percentile, it is in the top 27%. In the general comparison, CTU is ranked third nationally, behind UK and VŠCHT. Only CTU and VŠCHT moved up in the rankings, while other Czech universities dropped.

"I am very pleased and honoured that CTU continues its upward trend in the world rankings and that we have achieved our best ever ranking - we are 378th out of 2462 ranked schools. Our thanks go to all our colleagues, both staff and students, because without them and their talent and commitment, CTU would never have made it into the top four hundred universities. It has been confirmed that the direction taken in the development of international cooperation on important projects, the internationalisation of teaching in a bilingual environment, the involvement of CTU in major university unions - e.g. EuroTeQ, the interconnection of teaching and practice, as well as, for example, taking into account the needs of disabled students, is correct. We are rightly regarded as an excellent school even when compared worldwide," said Vojtěch Petráček, Rector of CTU.

The rankings have been compiled since 2004 by the consultancy QS. The results include six criteria, namely academic reputation, reputation with employers, number of citations per academic staff, number of international staff, number of international students and student-teacher ratio. This is where CTU is strongest this year, with the university ranking 194th in this ranking.

The first two criteria are evaluated based on a global survey of academics and employers, and citations are determined based on data in Elsevier's Scopus database. The remaining criteria are internal University data.

CTU also improved its ranking in the global QS Subject Rankings for Engineering and Technology by 46 places to 175th. Based on this ranking, CTU is the number 1 university in the Czech Republic.

More than 18,000 students are currently studying at CTU, including more than 3,000 foreigners.
