On 5 September, Times Higher Education published a new ranking of the world's top 1000 universities. For the second time in a row, the University of Oxford has won, with the University of Cambridge finished second. CTU in Prague defended its position at the 601st - 800th range and is thus still the best technical university in the Czech Republic.

An important discovery that helps to better understand the properties of cosmic matter shortly after the big bang has been accomplished by Czech scientists from the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering, CTU and the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic together with their scientific colleagues from 12 other countries. The research showing that quark-gluon plasma is a fluid with the best known vortical properties, was published by the prestigious magazine on the front page.

On 30 August, students from the Department of Control Engineering of the CTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Ing. Jiří Zemánek and Ing. Martin Gurtner received award for the best video popularizing automated management in the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest 2017 competition organized by the IEEE International Engineering Organization. The clip they created demonstrates the complex concepts of automatic control to a wider audience with a simple example of a ball and a hoop.

On 28 August, an informal meeting with a six-member delegation of the US Congress was held at CTU. The event, co-organized by the US Embassy in the Czech Republic, was led by Congressman Steve Chabot (Ohio) and Congressman Stephen F. Lynch (Massachusetts). The aim of the visit, which was part of the Central and Eastern European visit of the congress (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia), was the interest of US partners in promoting innovation, young talents and start-ups in an academic environment.

The third year of the Summer IT School for girl students aged between 14 and 19 was held at CTU grounds on 21 to 25 August. Girls mainly concentrated on programming, coding, and creating their own blog, site, or games. The partner of the event was Czechitas.

On 21 August, the Czech Institute of Informatics,Robotics and Cybernetics was visited by Mr. Hiroshige Seko, japanese minister of economics, technologies and industry. Main topic of the visit was the czech-japanese cooperation and its broadening namely in robotics, computer vision and industrial automation.

At the Department of Control Engineering of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, a system of so-called predictive heating control was created. Since 2010, as the first method of its kind, it has been tested directly on the faculty building on Technická street. The evaluation of its functions revealed that, after 7 years of its operation, the university saved 5,6 million Czech Crowns for heating.

Students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Marek Novák, Tomas Pikous and Barbora Suchanova are developing a baby glucometer in form of a credit card within the XGLU start-up. Thanks to their solution, the students achieved worldwide victory at the prestigious Microsoft Imagine Cup in Redmond on July 27th. This brings $ 250,000 worth of prizes. More than 50 projects have advanced to the finals of the competition from national competitions.

On 18 July, the students and teachers of the Faculty of Architecture presented an installation at Indira Gandhi's Park, improving the Dejvice university campus. The wooden passage is placed at the site of the original spontaneous path on the lawn connecting the National Technical Library to the Faculty of Architecture. The structure was created during the summer hand-made workshop, organized at the MaMa architectural studio directed by Josef Mádr and Šárka Malošíková at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU on 10 - 14 July.

From 3rd to 21st July, the first annual MIAS International Summer School was held at the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies. Forty students from China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia, Korea, Russia, Thailand, the United States of America and Uzbekistan teamed up in projects in the Innovation Leadership in Industry course, complemented by the thematic Czech History and Culture course.
