Students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Marek Novák, Tomas Pikous and Barbora Suchanova are developing a baby glucometer in form of a credit card within the XGLU start-up. Thanks to their solution, the students achieved worldwide victory at the prestigious Microsoft Imagine Cup in Redmond on July 27th. This brings $ 250,000 worth of prizes. More than 50 projects have advanced to the finals of the competition from national competitions.
On 18 July, the students and teachers of the Faculty of Architecture presented an installation at Indira Gandhi's Park, improving the Dejvice university campus. The wooden passage is placed at the site of the original spontaneous path on the lawn connecting the National Technical Library to the Faculty of Architecture. The structure was created during the summer hand-made workshop, organized at the MaMa architectural studio directed by Josef Mádr and Šárka Malošíková at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU on 10 - 14 July.
From 3rd to 21st July, the first annual MIAS International Summer School was held at the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies. Forty students from China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia, Korea, Russia, Thailand, the United States of America and Uzbekistan teamed up in projects in the Innovation Leadership in Industry course, complemented by the thematic Czech History and Culture course.
After seven years, Czech Academic Games were held in Prague. The biggest sports event of the Czech universities took place from 18 to 23 June. The organizer was the Czech Technical University in Prague, together with the Czech University of Agriculture and the Czech Association of University Sports. ČVUT won 7 gold, 18 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Three scientific papers written by doc. Daniel Sýkora from the Department of Computer Graphics and Interaction of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, were accepted to SIGGRAPH 2017, the most prestigious computer graphics conference.
On 23 June, the results of the 4th annual Crytur Award for the best diploma thesis in material sciences were announced in Turnov. The first place is shared by Ing. Tomáš Grabec from the CTU Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering and Ing. Petra Janská of the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague. Laureates of Honorable Mention are Ing. Adam Říha and Ing. Jakub Veverka, both from the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering.
Since 23 June, exhibition of architectural designs for reconstruction of the Zámecká recreation area in Dolina, Kokořín Region, is open to public at Kokořín Castle. The authors of the work are students of the 3rd year of Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU.
On June 23, 86 new professors recieved their titles in the big hall at Carolinum of Charles University. Seven professors from the Czech Technical University in Prague were among them.
Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering built a unique straw house with the support of a grant and a sponsor's help at the premises of the CTU University Center of Energy-Efficient Buildings in Buštěhrad. In practice, it will allow them to study the design and construction of the hay-based house, heat-humidity status of straw walls, the performance of clay plasters, defects caused by deficiencies in the design or execution of the building. They will also observe the fire characteristics of the straw construction and its fire behavior. The result of experimental research will be a number of diploma theses and the gain of valuable information, which can make a significant contribution to improving knowledge about the construction of environmentally friendly building materials and products in practice.
The electric formula from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was presented on 16 June in the lower part of Wenceslas Square in Prague. The monopost was designed and built during this year's academic year by students themselves. The presentation culminated with dynamics demonstrations of the car.
