How to find the optimal positioning of train passengers to ensure an effective evacuation? How to provide user data to a third party while preserving their anonymity? Students of Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FIT CTU) find answers to these and other questions within the framework of the student research support program called Research Summer at FIT (VýLeT). Their results are also celebrating success at international conferences. For their independent scientific work, students receive an extraordinary scholarship or financial reward of up to CZK 65,000 from the faculty.
In the Hall of the Year competition, which has been organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering for many years, the task of 2-3 member student teams is to design a model of a structure according to the assignment, build it and then subject it to a load test until its collapse. The final ranking of the models is determined by the efficiency of the model, i.e. the ratio between the total load capacity of the model and its own weight. This year's edition, which took place on 18-19 April and 21 April 2023, premiered three competition categories - for undergraduates from technical colleges, for high school students and for PhD students - and was marked by enormous student interest.

The technology, which uses the creation of a 3D human model, was developed for the exhibition by a team from the Department of Computer Graphics and Interaction at CTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering led by Dr. David Sedláček. There are currently five different garments to choose from, but Dr Sedláček said the range of virtual clothing will grow during the exhibition.
