The study programmes of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offer students the opportunity to get an education in a wide range of fields and follow their dreams. One of the highly sought-after study programmes is Aeronautics and Astronautics, where students can work on interesting and concrete projects from their undergraduate studies.

The largest ever Czech delegation to Taiwan was also attended by representatives of CTU in Prague, namely Vice-Rector Radek Holý, Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Science Ondřej Přibyl and Professor Igor Jex from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering. The trip was evaluated as a success, not only the long-standing partnership with Taipei Tech University was deepened, but also new forms of cooperation with other entities not only from the academic sphere were established.

The best works created by students in the Graphic Design and 3D Modelling courses can be seen at the Semestrale exhibition. The exhibition began this week in the Department of Computer Graphics and Interaction (DCGI), which offers both courses. During the opening ceremony, the author and the writer of the most outstanding works also received awards. DCGI head Jiří Žára noted in his introduction that both the Graphic Design course, taught by academic painter Lucie Svobodová, and the 3D modelling course taught by Dr David Sedláček of DCGI, are popular among the students and the student works are getting better every year.

Dr. Josef Šivic from the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) has been awarded a prestigious ERC Advanced grant for his research on intelligent computer systems capable of learning in a dynamically changing world. The project, called FRONTIER, will develop a new generation of large neural models for machines that operate in a dynamic 3D world and interact with their environment. The award of this highly competitive grant, totalling up to €2.5 million over five years, was announced today by the European Research Council (ERC). Josef Šivic is ranked by Research.com as one of the best computer scientists in the Czech Republic and his latest research follows a six-year European-funded project that brought him back to the Czech Republic from France to work at the CIIRC CTU.

"Change your future during your studies and start your career at leading Czech transport companies" was the main motto of the 5th Career Day of Faculty of Transportation Sciences, which took place 28 March 2023 in the Horská building.

The competition for the best urban design projects of eight schools of architecture of the Visegrad Group was won by the project of the development of the centre of Strakonice by Tereza Říhová from Faculty of Architecture. The announcement of the 27th Urban Design Award took place on 20 March at the faculty.

Dr. Tomáš Michálek, a doctoral graduate of the Department of Control Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University, has been awarded the Werner von Siemens Prize for 2022. His supervisors were Associate Professor Zdeněk Hurák and dr. Jiří Zemánek, both from the Department of Control Engineering of FEE CTU.

In the week from March 13th – 17th, 2023, one hundred and sixty foreign students from leading European technical universities visited CTU in Prague within the framework of the Athens Progamme. Each of the students participated in one of the seven intensive courses organised by the university’s faculties.

32 students from technical schools and robotics fans, 8 teams, 25 hours of continuous work, minimum sleep.

Ing. Tomáš Halada from the Institute of Technical Mathematics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded 1st prize for the best diploma thesis of 2022 in the Werner von Siemens Prize competition. His thesis was supervisied by doc. Ing. Luďek Beneš, Ph.D.
