The sixth annual Synth Challenge 2021 competition for university students who synthesize compositions in MATLAB was won by Adrian Pitoňák, a student of FEL CTU. Among other things, he scored with the international jury with his version of Bohemian Rhapsody, which was compulsory for all participants in this year's competition.
Scientists from the Faculty of Information Technology have been awarded a prestigious Advanced ERC grant worth 77 million crowns for research into making programming language updates more efficient and cheaper. Programming languages allow programmers to interact with computers and specify tasks to be performed.

The Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague in cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague and the organizations Adra and Zásilkovna are dispatching a truck with humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The recipient is the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding in Mykolaiv, whose rector, Eugeny Trushliakov, has asked the universities' leadership for help. The cargo of the humanitarian transport consists of non-perishable foodstuffs, baby diapers, medical and hygienic supplies worth 1 200 000 CZK.
The exhibition "Czech High Gothic in Models by Students of the Architecture and Civil Engineering Programme of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University" will take place at the Czech Museum of Silver in Kutná Hora - Hrádek from 1 April to 30 November 2022. The general public will get acquainted with buildings from the time of Charles IV that have not survived, have changed their appearance, have not been completed or were designed and never built. The exhibition is the main event of this year's Kutná Hora museum season.
The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI), specifically its scientists doc. David Vrba, Ing. Lukáš Malena and prof. Jan Vrba from the Bio-electromagnetism research team, collaborated with doctors from the General University Hospital in Prague and the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University to verify the accuracy of targeting transcranial magnetic stimulation (non-invasive stimulation using magnetic pulses that induce electrical currents in a specific part of the brain) in patients suffering from orofacial pain (in the face and oral cavity). The results of their study will help to improve the treatment process for these patients.
The S.A.W.E.R. system, developed at the CTU, can uniquely produce water from air. At EXPO 2020, it has now received an award directly from the hands of Sheikh of Dubai. EXPO ends today, but the system remains in Dubai for its academic and commercial potential.
Yesterday, at the University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB) in Buštěhrad, students - members of the CTU team in the prestigious international competition Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 - met with the Rector and other members of the CTU management, project partners and other guests. Representatives of the student team working under the guidance of teachers from the Faculty of Civil Engineering presented their competition project. Afterwards, the Rector of CTU Vojtěch Petráček inaugurated the construction of the competition building on the experimental grounds of UCEEB. The building is a wooden structure, so the traditional tapping of the foundation stone was replaced by screwing a screw into the floor panel.
A workshop on Agile methods in practice was held at the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies (MIAS) on Thursday, 24 March 2022. Head Agile Consultant KB Pavol Blaho together with his colleague, Agile Coach and the SCRUM MASTER, Václav Javanský, gave a lecture on agile ways of working. Using the example of KB's agile transformation, they introduced the participants to different agile project management methodologies and their advantages over traditional management methods.
The Department of Dosimetry and Ionizing Radiation of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of CTU in Prague (FJFI) prepared an intensive one-week course focused on the application of ionizing radiation for foreign participants of the ATHENS exchange project.
