The Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering of CTU, Prof. Jiří Máca, and Dr. Karel Smejkal, a representative of the international student architectural competition Inspireli Awards, met with the Holy Father during a general audience on Wednesday 24 May,.

The meeting was held in the context of the humanitarian activities of the Inspireli Awards, which managed to organize a design competition for the reconstruction of the port of Beirut, destroyed by the explosion in 2020, with great interest from students. During the meeting, Pope Francis was presented with a unique gift - a fragment of a building created by Czechoslovak civil engineers, which was the only one left standing after the tragic explosion. The donated fragment was placed in a special packaging created by Jiří Mezera and Michal Chalupa in the model room of Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University. Thanks to INSPIRELI AWARDS and the students who were not indifferent to the fate of Lebanon, the Port of Beirut will rise again.

The trip also included a meeting with representatives of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, who were presented with the activities of the Inspireli Awards to support students and introduced the "Virtual Faculty of Architecture" INSPIRELI EDUCATION.

Many thanks to the Czech Ambassador to the Holy See, Mgr. Václav Kolaj, who devoted a lot of time and effort to arrange the visit of the representatives of Inspireli Awards and the Dean of Faculty to the Vatican and personally accompanied the delegation.
