Heart disease, diabetes or obesity. The European CoDiet project, supported by the prestigious Horizon Europe programme, will test a new approach to their prevention. Experts from 10 countries, including researchers from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence at the CTU FEL, will use innovative tools to monitor and evaluate patients' eating habits in order to better understand the relationship between food and disease. The outcome of the project will be an AI-based system that will offer people an effective and tailored nutrition plan. Czech scientists will contribute to this personalised nutrition advice by developing optimisation algorithms.
The spring part of the Robotics Competition for younger participants, i.e. from the 2nd grade of primary schools and the corresponding classes of multi-year grammar schools, was held at Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the CTU in Prague on the afternoon of Friday 28 April. Thanks to the high participation of 113 teams, the competition was held in three one-day rounds and three winners emerged: the Gyrotechnici team from the Secondry School Písnická, Prague 4, the Havárie team from Technecia Pardubice and the CRoomba team from the Robotics Centre Plzeň. Altough we don't know the absolute winner, 12 to 16 robots with the best scores will compete one more time - during the superfinal at the Maker Faire Prague festival at the Prague Exhibition Grounds on Sunday 11 June.
How to find the optimal positioning of train passengers to ensure an effective evacuation? How to provide user data to a third party while preserving their anonymity? Students of Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FIT CTU) find answers to these and other questions within the framework of the student research support program called Research Summer at FIT (VýLeT). Their results are also celebrating success at international conferences. For their independent scientific work, students receive an extraordinary scholarship or financial reward of up to CZK 65,000 from the faculty.
In the Hall of the Year competition, which has been organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering for many years, the task of 2-3 member student teams is to design a model of a structure according to the assignment, build it and then subject it to a load test until its collapse. The final ranking of the models is determined by the efficiency of the model, i.e. the ratio between the total load capacity of the model and its own weight. This year's edition, which took place on 18-19 April and 21 April 2023, premiered three competition categories - for undergraduates from technical colleges, for high school students and for PhD students - and was marked by enormous student interest.
