Ing. Tomáš Báča, Ph.D. from the Multirobotic Systems Group received an important scientific award from the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic at the end of June. The ceremony took place in the Music Hall of the Buquoy Palace. The event was chaired by three Nobel laureates among others. Tomáš Báča received the Joseph Fourier Prize from the hands of Jean Tirole, Nobel Prize winner in Economics. The international scientific community recognised Báca's contribution to the field of cooperative control of a group of autonomous drones.
The 6th annual Children's University at CTU was opened today with the matriculation of students in the building of the Faculty of Engineering. Rector of CTU Vojtěch Petráček and Chancellor Lucie Orgoníková also listened to the matriculation vows.
The paper "Learning to Solve Hard Minimal Problems" by co-authors Petr Hrubý (ETH Zurich), Timothy Duff (University of Washington), Anton Leykin (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Tomáš Pajdla (CIIRC CTU) received the Best Paper Award at the CVPR conference. Along with ICCV and ECCV, CVPR is one of the most prestigious scientific conferences in the field of computer vision; according to the Google Scholar scientific impact metric, it belongs to the top 4 together with Nature, NEJM and Science. If we want to compare it, being awarded the Best Paper at this conference is similar to winning a movie Oscar. Tomáš Pajdla, who works at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) of the Czech Technical University, is the fourth best Czech computer scientist according to the Research.com Ranking.
What traces of historic tools have been found on historic buildings and stone artefacts and what did these tools look like? This is too will be presented at the exhibition at the Charles Bridge Museum running from 9 July to 31 October 2022. Experts from the Department of Geotechnics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the National Heritage Institute will present the results of three years of research in the field of building history, civil engineering, geology and other natural and technical sciences. The exhibition will be officially opened on Saturday 9 July at 5.31 a.m., when, according to legend, Charles Bridge was founded. The exhibition will be opened by Charles IV, who will come across Charles Bridge with his procession and tap on the foundation stone of Charles Bridge.
Czech Technical University in Prague signed an agreement with Macquarie University from Australia on 8 July 2022. Macquarie University, ranked in the Top 200 universities in the world, is considered one of the best universities in Australia and produces graduates who are among the most sought-after professionals in the world.
The international competition Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 concluded on Sunday 26 June. The FIRSTLIFE team from CTU was among 16 teams from Europe and Asia, which developed a project and built a demonstration of the superstructure for the student dormitory Větrník in Prague. The Czech team came 3rd in the Comfort category from this very demanding prestigious competition.
Jae-Hoon Chung, CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), and doc. Vojtěch Petráček, Rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the end of June at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (MIT). Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Tomas Ehler, Deputy Minister of the Nuclear Energy Section, were also present at the ceremony.
At the end of June, the opening ceremony of the unique new and modernized laboratories of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) of the Czech Technical University in Prague took place in Kladno, especially for the Biomedical Engineering PhD study programme.
What do Tunis, German Ulm and Hungarian Budapest have in common? Now, for example, the fact that from these three places the ignition and measurements on the Golem tokamak in the centre of Prague at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FJFI) were initiated on the same day via the Internet. For the first time in history, an African country was included in the list of countries from where the ignition of the plasma on the Golem tokamak was initiated.
Over 15,000 people visited the Dejvice campus on Wednesday 22 June, where the 10th edition of the traditional Vědafest festival was held together with the event "Priorities of the Czech Presidency". Charles University, the Czech Technical University, the Institute of Chemical Technology, the Czech University of Life Sciences, the Academy of Performing Arts and the Academy of Arts Architecture and Design in Prague opened exhibitions for visitors, presenting selected topics of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council, as it commences 1 July and ends on 31 December 2022.
