On Monday evening, a meeting was held between Taiwanese MPs led by Deputy Speaker Chiang Chi-Chen, representatives of TSRI (Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute) led by Director Hou Tuo-Hung and representatives of CTU in Prague.

The aim of the meeting was to show Taiwanese legislators the training center for chip and semiconductor development, which will be located at CTU and is being established in cooperation between the university and TSRI.

CTU was represented by the Rector Vojtěch Petráček, Vice-Rectors Zbyněk Škvor and Radek Holý, Chancellor Lucie Orgoníková and Vice-Dean of the CTU FEL Jan Vobecký. Guests from the Czech Republic included Martin Mejstřík, Advisor to the First Vice-Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and Tomáš Pitner from Masaryk University.

According to Chiang Chi-chen, Deputy Speaker of the Taiwanese Parliament, people are the foundation of semiconductor development and he is pleased to witness the establishment of TSRI's first overseas centre. He said that more and more Taiwanese companies are choosing partners in the country, especially in the technology sector, but he hopes that this successful cooperation could also boost other sectors. He considers education to be crucial and wished the training centre and the whole project a great success.

Director Hou Tuo-Hung began his speech by thanking our university for its support, without which such a large project would not have been possible. He considers the establishment of the training centre to be an important milestone not only for the mutual relations between the two countries, but also for the entire semiconductor industry.

Rector Vojtěch Petráček mentioned the history of the CTU, which is more than 300 years old, and noted that the training centre is being built in the newest building of the university. He said that Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering and Faculty of Information Technology will cooperate with the chip development centre. Finally, he recalled that the cooperation between CTU and Taiwan has been going on for ten years and was initiated from below, so he is pleased that it is now officially institutionalised; the centre will have an outreach across Europe, he said.

The centre is expected to open in autumn this year.
