According to the latest statistical data, there is a shortage of more than 10,000 professionals in the field of electrical engineering and informatics in the Czech Republic and Slovakia alone. Their shortage is already paralysing and threatening the development of strategic industry. The newly established Alliance for Electrical and Computer Engineering will therefore look for ways to stimulate the interest of male and female applicants and thus increase the number of graduates in these socially critical professions.
"We are aware that a common and unified approach in the field of promotion and popularization of technical education can effectively target the increase of interest of secondary school students in technical fields, which is essential to ensure the future generation of professionals needed for the industrial sector and the economy in general," said the elected president of the Alliance and Dean of FEL ZČU Zdeněk Peroutka and continued: "The Alliance brings together and enables joint use of the unique resources and technologies available to the Alliance members. By signing the Memorandum we clearly declare our desire for cooperation, unified approach and systematic direction towards European leadership, both in the field of research and development and education," he added.
The Alliance wants to be a motivator for the arrival of new investors to the Czech Republic and Slovakia with its competences and modern equipment of individual faculties. They will contribute to the transfer of cutting-edge technologies (e.g. semiconductor chips) and the creation of new highly qualified jobs.
The founders of the Alliance are sixteen Czech and Slovak faculties or universities working in the field of electrical engineering, computer science and cybernetics. "By signing the memorandum we clearly declare our efforts to cooperate and to act in a unified manner," added the president of the Alliance.
Vladimír Kutiš, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, was elected Vice President of the Alliance. "The current era is characterized by a great dynamics of change and the introduction of new technologies and innovations in technical fields, especially in informatics and cybernetics, along with overlapping into electrical engineering. Technical universities and faculties, which are active in the field of education, science, research and innovation in these areas, intensively perceive the requirements of industrial partners in the education of a new generation of professionals. The establishment of the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Informatics is to be a platform that will represent the university sector in communication with industry partners, relevant ministries in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as with secondary schools," concluded Dean Vladimír Kutiš.
The sixteen founding members of the Alliance are the following faculties:
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
