For the fourth time, future paramedics from Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague draw attention with the event "Donate blood!" - mass blood donation at the Kladno Regional Hospital on 12 December 2023 - on the irreplaceability of human blood and the shortage of donors.

This is the fourth time that students of Faculty of Biomedical Engineering's Paramedicine programme donate blood en masse to draw attention to its uniqueness and irreplaceability even in the current technical era. The aim of the event is to reach out to the general public and bring new volunteers to donate.

The first event took place at the end of 2021, when a significant shortage of blood appeared after the covid period. At that time, 30 students participated. The aim was to set an example and motivate other classmates and the general public to join in. Since most of the students were donating blood for the first time, they chose the slogan: "We did it, you can do it too!"

PhDr. Pavel Böhm, Ph.D., MSc., MBA, teacher at FBMI and also a paramedic, adds, "I am glad that this event continues and new students are still joining. It is amazing how many young people have high moral credit and try to set an example for others. I really appreciate all the students who have decided to help in this selfless way. I firmly believe that this event will motivate not only more students to become regular blood donors, but will also reach out to hesitant fellow citizens in the general public, which will contribute to reducing the shortage of donors in the Czech Republic. We are pleased that this appeal has become a tradition at the faculty."

"The Kladno Regional Hospital has been cooperating with FBMI for many years. Students have been doing their internships with us or joining some departments as paramedics, and we are very pleased about that. I am grateful for this student initiative and I have great respect for everyone who decides to help others. The Advent season is full of miracles, so we will wish that first-time donors become regular donors, that regular donors are still full of enthusiasm and that thanks to everyone the world will be a little bit more okay again," adds Ing. Lucie Lidická, Chief Setter of the Regional Hospital Kladno, p.o.
