Ninety thousand, that is the number of students who have passed through the doors of the Centre for Information and Counselling Services, established by the Rector's Office of CTU in Prague, over the past twenty years. It is ninety thousand stories, questions, study and personal difficulties that CIPS helped to solve. However, this issue also contains thousands of joys of solved problems, passed exams and successfully completed studies.

Since 2003, when students themselves initiated foundation of the Centre, it has been expanding and innovating its services to meet the needs of learners. In 2003, four counselling centres were created: academic, psychological, socio-legal and spiritual.

Gradually, counselling centres were added, such as speech and personality counselling or psychological counselling in a foreign language. New seminars and workshops were created to develop not only study skills but also the whole personality of the students and their practical skills. Thus, one can come to CIPS for a music or art workshop, a series of seminars on partner relations, a financial literacy course or first aid training.

The centre carried out projects on computer addiction and women in technical fields. CIPS staff also worked with people who work at CTU, for example with a project aimed at female colleagues in the study departments.

In 2023, our counselling rooms were the busiest, especially psychological counselling. The number of consultations almost doubled from 2020 to 2021, with 1,623 consultations counted in 2022, and this year will exceed that number by quite a bit.

The mission of CIPS has always been to support students in their academic success and to prepare them for the life that awaits them after graduation through all-round personal development.

"In the future, we want the lives of students to be less marked by stress and pressure to perform and more accompanied by curiosity, creativity and the joy of the endless possibilities of study. We as CIPS will support this joy by developing new methods and development tools that we want to provide to our learners," says Klára Trávníčková from CIPS.
