A meeting between representatives of Taiwan and the management of CTU in Prague was held on Friday afternoon. The result was a real promise of large Taiwanese investment in CTU research and bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of semiconductors and IC technologies.

The Taiwanese minister and other members of the delegation were greeted by Rector Vojtěch Petráček. The subsequent meeting was held in a very friendly spirit, the Taiwanese colleagues showed interest in the results of research at CTU. The University as such was presented in their presentations by the Vice-Rectors for Science, Creative Activities and Doctoral Studies Zbyněk Škvor and for Bachelor's and Master's Studies Gabriela Achtenová, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering were then presented by the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Jiří Jakovenko and for Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Michael Valášek and Milan Dvořák.

The Taiwanese positions and interests were first discussed by Hou Tuo-Hung, a professor from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, who became the Director General of TSRI NARLabs (Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute in National Applied Research Laboratories) in October 2022. He said that he considers the semiconductor industry to be very important and strategic, and recalled that Taiwan ranks first in the world in terms of semiconductor manufacturing and testing and second in the world in chip manufacturing, and naturally intends to develop this uniqueness.

He was succeeded by Minister without Portfolio Wu Tsung-Tsong, who was Taiwan's Minister of Science and Technology until 2022. They both praised the quality of Czech Technical University in Prague, its teaching and especially its research. It is in this field that they expect close cooperation, with the Taiwanese now primarily interested in research results in the areas of semiconductors and IC technologies. They consider international cooperation to be absolutely essential in today's world, and they intend to release billions of funds for research by CTU experts.

The offer of cooperation was welcomed by CTU Rector Vojtěch Petráček, who considers Taiwan an important strategic partner for university research. The counterpart for CTU should be primarily the NARLabs (National Applied Research Laboratories) institute, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The meeting was also attended by Vice-Rector Radek Holý and the deans of Faculty of Electrical Engineering Petr Páta, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Miroslav Španiel and Faculty of Information Technology Marcel Jiřina.
