The largest ever Czech delegation to Taiwan was also attended by representatives of CTU in Prague, namely Vice-Rector Radek Holý, Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Science Ondřej Přibyl and Professor Igor Jex from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering. The trip was evaluated as a success, not only the long-standing partnership with Taipei Tech University was deepened, but also new forms of cooperation with other entities not only from the academic sphere were established.

On this occasion, Taipei Tech and CTU signed a memorandum to strengthen the partnership between the two universities. Wang Sea-fue, Rector of Taipei Tech (National Taipei University of Technology), said with pleasure: "This is the second time in three years that CTU Vice-Rector Radek Holý has personally visited us." He sees this as evidence of a genuine interest in deepening cooperation.

Taipei Tech and CTU have been partners for more than 15 years. For students of Taipei Tech, the prestigious CTU is one of the most advantageous exchange destinations, and more than 150 students from both universities have participated in the exchange program. Now Taipei Tech has also entered into an agreement with CTU to jointly invest in semiconductor research, sustainable energy, smart cities and information security monitoring.

"During the mission in Taiwan (and also in South Korea) it was confirmed that one of the most interesting areas of technological development and international cooperation is quantum technologies," said Vice-Rector Radek Holý. Together with Professor Jex, he discussed quantum technologies at Yonsei University (South Korea), with which a memorandum of understanding on this topic is being prepared, at National Taiwan University and the National Science and Technology Council and the Ministry of Digital Affairs of Taiwan.

Holý had the opportunity to visit Taiwan for the first time 11 years ago. Since then, he has made many good friends there. "The goal of CTU during this visit was to deepen cooperation with other Taiwanese universities. During the negotiations, in addition to scientific cooperation, we prepared, for example, new study programmes for our students. I can also mention that leading Asian universities are organising a quantum hackathon and we discussed the involvement of Czech students," added the vice-rector.

The Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Scences Ondřej Přibyl appreciates the establishment of new contacts in the field of sustainable mobility and smart cities, not only within the City science laboratory (MIT Media Lab as part of Taipei Tech), but also with the important research institute ITRI (Industrial Technlogy Research Institute). He is also delighted to further develop the existing collaboration at NTUST (National Taiwan University of Science and Technology), not only in research, but also to extend the already existing joint dual-degree PhD programme to more NTUST faculties.

Taipei Tech's website reminded that the school and CTU established a partnership in 2007 and that CTU is one of the oldest technical universities in Europe and the best Czech technical university. "CTU is not only considered a breeding ground for top engineers, but has also educated a number of government officials, such as former President Václav Havel and the current Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Markéta Pekarova Adamová," the website https://www-en.ntut.edu.tw/ said. The Czech delegation also received considerable attention in the Taiwanese press.
