17th November. Not only the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy, but after a long break, also the International Student Day, which has been recognised in the Czech Republic for several years.

Representatives of CTU, headed by Rector Vojtěch Petráček, were at many places on this day. Traditionally, they started the day at the Hlávka dormitory , where the wreath was laid not only by the Rector, but also by the President of the Student Chamber of the Council of Universities Michal Farník, a student of the CTU, and the President of the CTU Student Union Ivana Dvořáková. In addition to them, Vice-Rector Alena Kohoutková and Vice-Rector Radek Holý were also present. While they went on to the memorial service in Ruzyně, the Rector of the CTU went in a student procession to the memorial plaque in Žitná Street, where Jan Opletal was fatally wounded and the baker's apprentice Václav Sedláček was killed on the spot in 1939. After paying his respects to both of them, Vojtěch Petráček and the other rectors went to Albertov, where he also laid a wreath and lit a candle in remembrance of 1989. Beside lightning up the candle for himself, he also brought the flame for Matteo Vespa, the President of the European Students' Union. On Národní třída, the rector of the CTU lit the candle together with the rector of the Brno University of Technology, Ladislav Janicek.
