The University Primary School Lvíčata (Lion cubs), established by the CTU in Prague, welcomed almost twenty first-year pupils today. Some of them already have experience with Lvíčata, as they come from the kindergarten by the same name, located around the corner from the primary school. The pupils were greeted by the Rector of the CTU Vojtěch Petráček and the Chancellor Lucie Orgoníková.

The opening of the school year for almost 80 pupils of the 1rst to 5th year of the primary school established by the Czech Technical University in Prague took place in the Dejvice Campus, on the terrace in front of the Student House, which among other institutions also houses the Lvíčata (Lion cubs) Primary School. The children, parents and teachers were wished a peaceful and successful year by the Rector of the Czech Technical University Vojtěch Petráček and the Chancellor Lucie Orgoníková, who then sang the school anthem together with the others.

After the welcome on the terrace, parents went to see the exhibition of pictures by children from the "kindergarten" under the title Love and paint on the ground floor of the school. "When our fifth-graders prepare a project within the Financial Literacy programme, we will put these pictures up for auction and give the proceeds to help Ukraine," said Ilona Ali Bláhová, the school's principal.

Rector Petráček praised the new furnishings of the interior, used by the school for second year now. "Everything here smells fresh and new and the environment is welcoming and colourful, I hope the children will like it here," he said. When asked whether he sees the children as future engineers, nuclear scientists or even builders, i.e. graduates of the CTU, the rector smiled and said: "Of course, that is still a long way off, but I am convinced that our primary school will give children the necessary foundations for a top-quality education."

The fact that this will be the case is evidenced, for example, by the recent results of the pupils=cubs in the unified entrance exam for eight-year grammar schools. "In Czech language, the average percentile ranking of applicants to eight-year grammar schools across the country is 50.0. Our school achieved a percentile of 82.7. In mathematics, the average percentile ranking across the country is also 50.0. However, the Cubs achieved a percentile of 78.7 in mathematics," commented the school principal Ilona Ali Bláhová on the CERMAT results in the spring.

The Lvíčata Primary School currently provides education at the first level of primary school, focusing on science and technology. Pupils have the opportunity to visit the professional departments of the Czech Technical University, and experts from the individual faculties are involved in teaching. Children achieve very good results in science-oriented competitions, such as the Mathematical Olympiad, the Mathematical Kangaroo, the Logical Olympiad, Pangea and others. Pupils are placed in the Informatics or Architects classes, and this year a Technicians class was opened.
