The aim of the StreTech conference is to offer meeting of students and presentation of their works and their secondary schools on the campus. The topics are not limited in any way, they can be technical, natural sciences or humanities and arts.
Before StreTech itself, the rector of the Czech Technical University, Vojtěch Petráček, the deans of the host faculties, Miroslav Španiel and Petr Páta, and representatives of other faculties met with the directors of the participating secondary schools. The rector of the Czech Technical University stressed the importance of mathematics, the quality of which must be ensured not only by secondary schools but also by elementary schools. Among other things, he said “Mathematics develops critical thinking and logic.” However, the directors of secondary schools complained about the lack of quality teachers and the fact that few students voluntarily choose mathematics for graduation, because “it is easier to choose English even at technical schools.”
Overall, representatives of the management of the Czech Technical University spoke with secondary school principals about the concept of education, agreed on the indispensability of technical fields and agreed on several possible ways of mutual cooperation.
