„Jsme obklíčeni ze třech světových stran, ale západní cesta zůstává volná. Pokud nám můžete zaslat humanitární pomoc, budeme moc vděční!“ Osobní dopis rektora ukrajinské univerzity přišel s touto prosbou na adresu Vysoké školy chemické technologické v Praze 17. března 2022. Vedení školy, která již předtím darovala 1 000 000 korun na pomoc Ukrajině prostřednictvím Člověka v tísni, bez váhání rozhodlo o uvolnění další částky ve výši 1 milionu z doplňkové činnosti a ve spolupráci se sousední ČVUT hledalo způsob, jak dostat humanitární pomoc přímo do Mikolajivu. Vedení tamější univerzity, jež funguje jako humanitární centrum nejen pro zaměstnance, studenty a jejich rodiny, ale i pro ostatní obyvatele půlmilionového města, totiž nežádalo o finanční podporu – potřeba je především jídlo a léky, kterých je v těžce sužovaném městě i na celé Ukrajině enormní nedostatek.
"We are surrounded on three sides of the world, but the western route remains clear. If you can send us humanitarian aid, we would be very grateful!" A personal letter from the rector of the Ukrainian university came with this request to the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague on 17 March 2022. The management of the school, which had previously donated CZK 1,000,000 to help Ukraine through People in Need, had no hesitation in deciding to release an additional amount of CZK 1 million from supplementary activities and, in cooperation with the neighbouring CTU, sought a way to get humanitarian aid directly to Mykolaiv. The management of the local university, which functions as a humanitarian centre not only for employees, students and their families, but also for other residents of the city of half a million, did not ask for financial support - the need is primarily for food and medicine, of which there is a huge shortage in the heavily beleaguered city and throughout Ukraine.
"When we were approached by Rector Trushliakov, we were not thinking about whether to help, but whether it was in our power to deliver the requested items directly to Ukraine," says Pavel Matějka, Rector of the University of Science and Technology in Prague. "In the end, the logistical problem was solved thanks to the involvement of Adra and Zásilkovna, to whom I would like to express my heartfelt thanks on behalf of both our universities," adds Rector Matějka.
Rektor Trushliakov požádal o pomoc dopisem též rektora ČVUT v Praze Vojtěcha Petráčka. Podle Petráčka ČVUT neváhalo: „Ukrajina si zaslouží veškerou podporu. A naše univerzita ji poskytuje v maximální míře, jaké je schopná. Ať už se jedná o pomoc ukrajinským uprchlíkům tady v Česku, nebo přímo napadené Ukrajině. Nakoupit věci do humanitárního transportu bylo tedy také jednomyslně přijatým rozhodnutím.“
Rector Trushliakov also asked for help by letter from the Rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Vojtěch Petráček. According to Mr. Petráček, the CTU did not hesitate: "Ukraine deserves all the support it can get. And our university provides it to the maximum extent it is able. Whether it is assistance to Ukrainian refugees here in the Czech Republic or directly to the invaded Ukraine. Buying things for the humanitarian transport was therefore also a unanimous decision."
The truck with humanitarian aid left Prague for Ukraine on Tuesday 4 April 2022. Its destination is the Ukrainian city of Mukachevo, where Adra has storage facilities and where the transport will be transferred to a vehicle from the University of Mykolaiv.
