During the World Speed Canoe Championships in Montemor, Portugal, kayaker Anežka Paloudová finished second in the kilometre race. In the final she was only beaten by Hungary's Emese Kohalmi.

An hour before this race, Anežka had taken the final 500m race, in which unfortunately she failed. So she did not go into the kilometer race in an ideal mood. The race didn't go well at all at the beginning, she was almost the last of the whole final in the middle of the course. "In the second half of the race I decided to leave everything in the race and fought my way up to second place," says Anežka Paloudová.

This is the first title of the Czech kayaker as a vice-world champion under 23 and her second medal overall. "The race means a lot to me, last December I tore my biceps tendon and struggled with this injury all spring. Thanks to this result and the whole 2021 season, I can see that my performance is improving and more and more I, and the whole Czech canoeing, are getting closer to the best female kayakers in the world," Anežka said.
