Prof. RNDr. Pavel Exner, DrSc., is an internationally recognized theoretician and specialist in the field of mathematical physics. He is currently working at the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering. For his contribution to the development of mathematical methods used in quantum physics, he was appointed a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in July 2021.

Professor Exner is also involved in a number of projects. He is the coordinator of the Theory Programme within the Centre for Advanced Applied Science (CAAS) and is the director of the Doppler Institute for Mathematical Physics and Applied Mathematics, a joint institute of the CTU Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the University of Hradec Králové. He is also a member of a number of other national and international scientific societies and organisations.

"My main task as a new member of the Academy will be to provide expertise in the field in which I work. I would also like to strengthen the position of the Ukrainian mathematical community in which it has been in the past, building on my work as President of the European Mathematical Society from 2015 to 2018," says Professor Pavel Exner on his election.    

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was founded in 1918 and is the main center of science and technology development in the country. The Presidium is based in Kiev, with six regional centres in Lviv, Odessa, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and the Crimean city of Simferopol.
