Rector doc. Vojtěch Petráček presented diplomas of the President of the Republic to three new CTU professors - prof. Jan Hrdliček from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, prof. Daniel Rypl from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and prof. Tomáš Svoboda from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering on 2 April 2, 2021 as part of the TV9P broadcast.

"We live in extraordinary times and our colleagues who have obtained professorship cannot receive it properly from either the president or the Minister of Education, which is why we received it from the Ministry of Education to the university. We would like to make the handover ceremony ceremonial, and not behind closed doors, for this reason we have come up with the idea that the handover will take place on TV9P broadcasting, “said the CTU Rector doc. Vojtěch Petráček.

The first new professor is Ing. Jan Hrdlička, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. At the faculty, he deals with a very current topic of energy, specifically the impact of its processes on the environment and the air. Among other things, he is looking into what is called decarbonization, i.e. processes that allow us to reduce the carbon footprint. "In my case, it's about capturing carbon dioxide from energy conversions. And one of the secondary topics I am addressing is renewable energy. In other words, everything that is highly topical today and will be even more topical in the future, for example in connection with the pan-European Green Wealth twenty-fifty commitment, which presupposes probably complete carbon neutrality, meaning total decarbonisation of energy and industry,” says the new professor, and adds: "I would like to thank the faculty, the university and my colleagues, because getting a professorship is not just a matter of itself, it is always based on teamwork, team support, so thank you for your support."

The second new professor is Dr. Ing. Daniel Rypl from the Faculty of Civil Engineering. At the faculty, he mainly deals with geometric modeling of building structures and their discretization into so-called finite elements. This process is essential in order for the response of the building structure obtained by numerical calculation to be achieved with sufficient accuracy and within a reasonable time.

The third of the new CTU professors is Ing. Tomáš Svoboda, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. What does he focus on at the faculty? "I try to make the robots useful and to get to know the surroundings well, to touch the surroundings with cameras or laser sensors. And then I come up with algorithms with my colleagues so that the robots can complete the task as quickly and efficiently as possible, whether it is loading the package from point to point or finding a victim somewhere buried in a mine with a field mobile robot, "adds prof. Svoboda.

The CTU rector congratulated all the new professors and wished them much success in their further scientific and pedagogical activities.
