The Vice-President of the Senate, Jiří Oberfalzer, in cooperation with the Prague Academic Club 48 and Mene Tekel, organized a memorial gathering at the commemorative plaque of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in Nerudova Street on Tuesday, 25 February 2020. Participants commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the march of students for freedom and democracy to Prague Castle, which was held on 25 February, 1948. The rector of CTU, doc. Vojtěch Petráček gave a speech at the event.

As part of the Assembly's program, flowers were first laid by the representatives of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, namely the first vice-chairman Jiří Růžička, vice-chairman Jiří Oberfalzer and members of the Committee on Health and Social Policy Marek Hilšer and Pavel Karpíšek. The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in the Czech Republic was represented by the Ambassador to the Czech Republic J.E. Peter Weiss. On behalf of the Prague City Hall, Jan Wolf, chairman of the Committee on Culture, Exhibitions, Tourism and International Relations, laid flowers. On behalf of CTU in Prague Rector doc. Vojtěch Petráček and vice-rector for creative and editorial activities of prof. Jan Royt. There were also representatives of the Prague Academic Club 48, the Mene Tekel project, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, the Platform of European Memory, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the Student Chamber of the Council of Universities and Political Prisoners.

 

After the national anthem, speeches were given by Jiří Oberfalzer, Vice-President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mgr. Martin Špolc, Mgr. Daniel Herman, Mene Tekel project representative, Leo Žídek, former political prisoner in the 1950s, CTU Rector doc. Vojtěch Petráček, Vice-Rector of Charles University prof. Jan Royt, then Miroslav Lehký, representative of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience, and Giancarlo Lamberti, chairman of the Student Chamber of the Council of Universities.

 

The address was followed by a minute of silence.
