For the ninth time, the Association of Energy Services Providers announced the results of the competition for the best upcoming energy saving project of the year. CTU in Prague won first place for its revitalization in 9 CTU campuses. The expert jury consisting of Vladimír Sochor (MIT), Petr Holub (Chance for Buildings) and Martin Sedlák (Association of Modern Energy) appreciated the complexity of the EPC's largest ever project, where one third of the costs will be covered by the OPE. This includes not only energy-saving measures in thirty buildings throughout Prague, but also insulation and replacement of windows for a total of 220 million crowns. These will be repaid gradually from contractually guaranteed energy savings, which amount to 20.5 million crowns per year for eleven years.

“Energy and water costs will be reduced by 26%. The environmental benefits of the project are also important to us when modernizing our buildings. Thanks to this project, we will save more than 4,000 tons of CO2 and 29 Olympic swimming pools annually, ”says CTU Rector doc. RNDr. Vojtech Petracek, CSc.

The EPC method has been used in the Czech Republic since 1994. During this time, more than 250 projects worth CZK 3.6 billion have been implemented, which have helped customers save CZK 4.1 billion to date. The annual total of energy savings in all active projects in the Czech Republic is estimated at 350 million for 2019 and is growing by an average of 10% year on year. The most cited projects are upgrades in National Theater, Prague Congress Center, the Institute for the Care of Mother and Child in Podolí and many other public institutions, but also in industrial buildings. More about EPC can be found in the publication 25 Years of Energy-Saving Energy Services or at www.energetickesluzby.com

The advantage of energy-saving services (EPC) is that the investment in the modernization of heating, cooling or lighting is paid off by savings in energy costs that are contractually guaranteed to the customer. The key assessment criterion was the ratio of savings to investments.

The Ústí Region came second in the competition and the Prague 14 City District took third place.
