Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU participated in an international student competition organized by Region 8 ASC - Associated Schools of Construction On 7 and 8 November. The Faculty has been a member of since 2016. Overall, this association brings together over two hundred building faculties, mostly American. This year the competition took place in Manchester, England at the University of Salford. The participants were, in addition to the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU, from five American universities - Auburn University; California Polytechnic State University; University of Denver; University of Nebraska, Lincoln; Oklahoma State University; Roger Willams University, Rhode Island; one Irish - Technology University of Dublin, one German - JADE Fach Schule Oldenburg; of four British - Birmingham City University, Liverpool John Moores University, North Umbria University and the hosting University of Salford.

As last year, when the competition was held at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU, students had about six hours to work out the given task. The second day was a defense, for which they had 15 minutes for presentation. Within the next ten minutes, students answered questions from jury members. She finally selected the best three teams for each category.

 

This year, compared to the past, a new competition category, Design Build, was set up, ie the preparation of the building including a simple architectural design. There, the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU had three representatives in the combined MUSTANGS & LIONS team, which was formed together with students from California Polytechnic State University. For this category, it was necessary to select a student architect in addition to the “Project Management and Engineering” students. The CTU was represented by Jakub Leško and Tadeáš Zahradník, who study the field of civil engineering and their team was supplemented by Václav Šimeček, dedicated to the field of architecture and civil engineering. The three students in the new category managed to get an excellent second place.
