A two-meter statue printed on a 3D printer from a recyclable filament called Kaleidoscope by Ekin Ünlü from Turkey was auctioned off on 8 October at the International Engineering Fair in Brno in the presence of Karel Havlíček, Minister of Industry and Trade. It is a winning design that came from the Digital Factory student competition.

A student who studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague thanks to the international Erasmus + program, designed a statue that was then crowdprinted by more than 40 owners and operators of 3D printers from the Czech Republic using recyclable filament. The competition was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture and the PETMAT association. The winning models won not only a financial reward but also the opportunity to present themselves at the joint stand of the Czech National Exposition titled “The Country for the Future” at the International Engineering Fair in Brno.

The funds raised from the Kaleidoscope auction will help with the launch of PETMAT and other entities involved in 3D printing, plastic recycling in architecture and implementing research projects within the circular economy. This will support an illustrative example of the possibility of recycling in the form of waste material transformed into a work of art. Architect Kateřina Nováková from the Institute of Modeling of the Faculty of Architecture is behind the project, who is also the head of the PETMAT research and development team.

A time-lapse document was also made from the preparation and production of the 3D object, which can be seen at the Brno Exhibition Center during the fair.
