At the Faculty of Information Technology of CTU, a laboratory focused on film production was officially opened on 18 May. The modern workplace was created thanks to cooperation with the international IT company, Showmax.

In the newly opened laboratory, several research projects will be addressed. One uses artificial intelligence to detect scenes in movies. This research also has practical use for Showmax as well - it will enable the company to improve their own services in online streaming movies and serials by tailoring these services to their customers. These include, for example, automatic scene detection and navigation, filtering inappropriate content, or recognizing genres based on film similarities. The latter feature can further enhance personalized program recommendations, taking into account the viewer's preferences.

In another project, Ondřej Bíža, a student of the first year, is an artificial intelligence able to understand the content of the films. To accomplish this task, the so-called artificial neural networks that teach to analyze movies are employed. Computers will be able to recognize where the film takes place, or select all the action scenes from it.

Showmax is a subsidiary of Naspers, one of the largest internet companies in the world, providing Internet TV in more than 60 countries. Opening of the research laboratory represents the next stage in its cooperation with the CTU Faculty of Information Technology. Under the affiliate program, Showmax provides students with means to research real-life issues of Internet TV.
