For his contribution to the development of discrete mathematics and for his support of basic research and internationalization of studies at CTU, prof. RNDr. Adalbert Rodl, PhD. was granted the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the rector prof. Petr Konvalinka at the ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council of the Czech Technical University in the Bethlehem Chapel on 26 January. The honorary doctorate for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of multimodal communication and knowledge systems, for long-term research collaboration in these fields including the exchange of students and researchers between CTU and Dutch universities, was also granted to prof. Leon J. M. Rothkrantz.

Prof. Vojtech Rödl studied at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, where in 1973 he defended his thesis in mathematics. He then continued his doctoral studies and received his PhD on the same faculty in 1976. Later he lectured at the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering of CTU in Prague between the years of 1973 - 1987. He co-founded a new field of studies, the Mathematical Engineering, at the Department of Mathematics. He was a visiting research fellow at ATT Bell Laboratories between 1985 and 1988 and visiting professor at the University of Waterloo in 1987. Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA bacame his permanent work place where he recieved professorship a year later. Since 1993, he holds the unique Samuel Candler Dobbs Professorship. Prof. Rödl significantly influenced graph theory field and combinatorics field. The proof of Erdos and Hanani presumption, works on Ramsey theory and generalization of hypergraphs regularity lemma are among his most important results. He has won many major awards during his career, including the 2012 Polyo price, the 2013 award for contribution to world science awarded by the Neuron foundation, Felber Medal awarded by the Czech Technical University in 2005 and the Bolzano Medal awarded by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for the year 2011.

Prof. Leon J. M. Rothkrantz got his MSc. title in Mathematics at the University of Utrecht in 1971, then after nine years a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Amsterdam and in 1990 he received MSc. in psychology at the University of Leiden. His research interests are focused on multimodal communication, knowledge systems, dynamic routing and simulation. Initially focused on the exchange of students, Prof. Rothkrantz´s cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague in research and education is an important one since the late eighties. Since founding of the Faculty of Transportation Sciences, prof. Rothkrantz cooperates mainly with prof. Miroslav Svitek, prof. Mirko Novak, prof. Zdeněk Votruba, doc. Paul Hrubeš and doc. Peter Bouchner.
