Programming is no longer a male domain. The aim of the IT Summer School organised by Czechitas in cooperation with the Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FIT CTU) is to bring more girls into the world of IT. Its seventh edition will begin on the faculty's campus on 17 July, where a group of high school girls will try out what it is like to work in the IT field. The aim of the IT Summer School is for young girls to learn IT skills and try working on their own projects.

Girls will not just sit behind computers and program. They will also learn how to use graphics programs and try working with humanoid robots and other equipment in the specialized laboratories of FIT CTU. They can also look forward to leisure activities such as morning yoga, summer cinema, excursions to partner companies or professional career lectures and much more. The intensive four days of education and inspiration will culminate in a full-day hackathon where participants will work on their own projects. They will present their projects at the final gala evening at the CTU Rectorate in front of a jury of experts, their parents and the media.

Marie, a graduate of the IT 2021 Summer School, confirms that the programme is really busy: "In a short time I have broadened my horizons about the IT field. Every day a new discovery, so I wasn't afraid of getting bored. Some days were really challenging, but thanks to the team of lecturers and coaches, I always had someone available to help me manage everything without any problems."

The summer school is not just a demanding week-long programme, but the girls support each other, make new contacts and experience new things. "Thanks to the IT Summer School, many long-lasting friendships have been formed between the graduates, who continue their IT studies at universities. The enthusiasm for IT that they pass on to us helps us to work and develop projects such as the IT Summer School 2 for advanced female graduates, which we are piloting this year," says Anna Michalovová, Product Manager of Czechitas Children's Events.

The IT Summer School is designed as a week-long camp. The main program takes place in the computer classrooms and laboratories of the FIT CTU in Prague. The evening program is mostly designed for excursions in companies. There are 28 female high school students registered for this year's program.
