In the spring part of the Robo Competition, which is held every year at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University, pupil teams from the second level of elementary schools and corresponding classes of secondary grammar schools will meet again this week. The high number of participants and limited capacity of Zenger's auditorium at Charles Square forced the organizers to split the finals to three days. On 24, 25 and 26 April, 145 teams will compete, almost 50 more than last year. All three rounds of the Spring Competition are public and teachers, classmates and friends, media representatives and mobile robots enthusiasts are invited. The finals will take place on 24 Wednesday, 25 Thursday and 26 Friday April at 11.00 at Zenger's Auditorium of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague at Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí 13, Prague 2).

The basic concept of the CTU Robo Competition is the same every year: with the LEGO Mindstorms kit, pupils or students are tasked to build and program a robotic rover that best meets the task. This year's task for teams of pupils is as follows: the robot must completely move and, if possible, categorize as many colored cubes placed on the competition board into predefined store areas within 90 seconds. Two robots will compete at the same time on one symmetrically divided game board, and the number of points collected by each will determine the victory.

The team of the Department of Control Engineering of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been organizing the Robo Competition for eleven years and many successful competitors have later become students of the Cybernetics and Robotics faculty study program. However, the spring part of the competition for the younger age category was added later. It is clear that interest in robotics has to be cultivated since primary school. Moreover, there are more robotic hobby groups and enthusiast teachers who can motivate children so atmosphere of the competition is very good. In addition, the girls' team won the first year last year, denying the traditional idea that technology is just for boys.
