On June 1, 2022, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic announced the fifth public tender in the THÉTA Program for the Support of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation. It is possible to register until July 27, 2022.

The main goal of the THÉTA program is to contribute to the fulfillment of the vision of transformation and modernization of the energy sector in accordance with the approved strategic materials. This will be achieved through the support of energy research, development and innovation projects aimed at improving the governance of the energy sector by public administrations, new technologies and system elements with high potential for rapid application in practice, as well as long-term technological perspectives. The applicant for support can be a research organization or a company.

The public tender is announced in two sub-programs (hereinafter referred to as “PP”). In Appendix No. 2 - Specifications of individual sub-programs you will find the differences between individual PPs.

• Sub-program 1 - Research in the public interest
This sub-program expects project proposals that will be based on the needs of public administration in the field of energy and will offer such outputs / results that public administration will use especially in the development of methodologies, strategic and conceptual documents, regulatory frameworks, etc. and developments in the field of reliability and technological development of nuclear installations, energy regulation and other relevant areas. For project proposals of sub-program 1, the role of the application guarantor (organizational unit of the state or territorial self-governing unit) is required, with whom the project proposal needs to be consulted and prepared. The maximum support for one project in PP1 is CZK 10 million. The maximum aid intensity for 1 project is 90%.

• Sub-program 2 - Strategic energy technologies
This sub-program aims to support energy technologies and system elements with high potential for rapid application in new products, production processes and services. Project proposals belonging to sub-program 2 must have a sufficiently well-thought-out application potential, including future commercialization. The involvement of companies is essential, which must sufficiently describe the plan for the application of outputs / results in practice in the project proposal. Application in practice is typically expected within three years of the completion of the project. Research is therefore at an advanced stage. The maximum support per project in PP2 is not set. The maximum aid intensity for 1 project is 60%.

The competition period begins on June 2, 2022 and ends on July 27, 2022.
