She took a significant step in 1999 when she became head of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB). In this role, over the past 25 years she has become a key figure in Czech nuclear policy, known for her calm manner and ability to communicate complex issues clearly to the general public. She has also advocated for the safe use of nuclear energy and actively participated in international missions and conferences under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other organizations.
She made an enormous contribution not only as an expert and supporter of nuclear science and education, but also as a role model for young and inquisitive people. She often collaborated with the faculty, participated in discussions, and repeatedly lectured at events such as the student Researchers' Night, always sharing her experiences in a unique way. For many girls, she was proof that a woman could hold one of the highest positions in a world that, half a century ago, was still largely a male domain.
She enjoyed returning to her alma mater on various occasions and was also a member of the Scientific Council of the Czech Technical University.
She was also involved in politics, serving as deputy mayor of Pyšely and, for a short time, as a representative of the Central Bohemian Region. Her public activities were always characterized by an emphasis on transparency, education, and service to society.
She received numerous awards for her work and achievements, including:
- Medal of Merit, First Class (2014)
- Cross of Merit from the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic (2022)
- Japanese Order of the Rising Sun (2024)
- Honorary doctorates from the Technical University of Liberec and VŠB University of Mining and Technology in Ostrava
- Civil Service Personality Award (2025)
