The proof is this year's eleventh annual symposium under the auspices of the Minister of Transport Martin Kupka and the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda. The Minister together with the current Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ondřej Přibyl, personally opened the symposium on Thursday 29 May.
The main focus of this year's Smart Cities Symposium Prague 2025 was cooperative cities, not only from the perspective of sustainable mobility, but especially from the perspective of finding ways to climate-neutral cities. CTU Faculty of Transportation Sciences has long been involved in applied research on these key issues, e.g. through cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Development within the framework of the HE project CAPACities 2.0, with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the aforementioned Ministry of Transport within the framework of the national RIS3 strategy. The scientific committee consisting of leading experts from Faculty of Transportation Sciences, namely Prof. Miroslav Svítek, Prof. Ondřej Přibyl and doc. Tomáš Horák.
The symposium has long aimed to be a multidisciplinary platform not only for sharing new technologies, but above all experience with their practical application in everyday life.
The fact that climate neutrality and the demonstration of real solutions is a global topic is confirmed by the broad international participation at this 11th SCSP2025 symposium.
The main speakers were Porie Saikia-Eapen (FAIA, FCIOB, RIBA), Sarah Wolf(Freie Universität Berlin) and Olga Štěpánková (CIIRC ČVUT).
Other speakers included experts from the University of North Carolina (USA), Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), NIMS University Rajasthan (India), University of the Bundeswehr Munich (Germany) and many other representatives of the government and commercial sphere.
The symposium was supported by a number of companies, namely: VDT Technology, SUDOP Praha, YUNEX Traffic, AŽD, ČD Cargo, Railway Administration and MSC.
Special thanks go to the Faculty's long-time partner, SmartPlan, which supplied a number of topics for the symposium's side event - a fortnight-long international student workshop. During the workshop, students from the American partner University of Texas at El Paso together with students from Faculty of Transportation Sciences of CTU in Prague tackled real projects. For example, a traffic solution for the town of Odolena Voda, the surroundings of the Tatran Střešovice sports hall or an assignment from the town of Roudnice nad Labem. At the end of the symposium on Friday, 30 May, they presented their final solutions not only to the participants of the symposium, but also to the representatives of the affected areas.
Jarmila Ledvinková, Deputy Mayor of Odolena Voda, commented on the project by saying: "I am glad that after some time I could return to my mother faculty, but this time in the role of the project sponsor. With the transport faculty, and especially its students from the Department of Smart Cities and Regions, we managed to work on a project for the location of a future tram terminal in our village. The second project, which concerned parking in part of the village, also had interesting outcomes for me. Some of them we will bring to life in the near future, the rest will have to wait until the city saves its resources. Both groups were able to look at the issues with fresh eyes and bring much needed perspective and experience from other cities and states."
