The spring stage of the Robocompetition traditionally attracted hundreds of young roboticists to the Zenger Auditorium of FEL CTU in Prague on Charles Square. This year's competition task was called Sorting Colored Bricks, and three-person teams of elementary school students and the corresponding years of multi-year high schools had to build a robot from a LEGO Mindstorms kit and program it to independently pick up as many colored bricks as possible from the competition area and sort them into the available bins on the playground - all within a time limit of 90 seconds.
Three April rounds - three winners
The competition rounds were held on Wednesday 24th April, Thursday 25th April and Friday 26th April and out of 115 participating teams, the following three teams had won their corresponding rounds:
1. round: team Včera to fungovalo consisting of Jaromír Němec and Jan Řepka from high school Nový PORG v Praze 4.
2. round: team Hradečtí baráčníci consisting of Adam Bělohrádek and Jan Bělohrádek from kids´ club Dom dětí a mládeže v Králově Dvoře
3. round: team Gyrotechnici consisting of Tomáš Bocan, Jan Pospíšil and Lukáš Šebor from high school Gymnázium Písnická na Praze 4.
Superfinals at the Festival of Creativity and Innovation
"Since the participation in the competition was record-breaking, we had to organize three independent final rounds again - and of course we would be a bit sorry if we did not get to know the name of the absolute winner," said the organizer of the Robo Competition, Dr. Martin Hlinovský from the Department of Control Engineering at FEL CTU. "That's why, like last year, we have arranged cooperation with the Maker Faire Prague festival, which takes place in May at the Prague Exhibition Grounds. The big tournament of the 16 best robots from the three final rounds plus one extra one for the wild card will take place on Sunday 11 May in front of many hundreds of festival spectators. In addition, visitors will be able to play with the components of the competition kit or see other robots from our Cybernetics and Robotics programme at the Robocompetition stand throughout the festival weekend."
