Twenty future transport pilots from Ukraine are currently studying in the Czech Republic. The training takes place in cooperation with F Air. From the summer semester onwards, CTU in Prague will be an independent guarantor of their training and the number of students will increase to twenty-five. The project, to which the Czech Republic contributed from the Reconstruction Programme for Ukraine, was presented during a meeting between the Rector of the National Aviation University in Kiev (NAU) Volodymyr Šulha and the Rector of CTU Vojtech Petráček. The meeting was attended by Minister Jan Lipavsky on behalf of the Czech government, and representatives of the Ukrainian and American embassies were also present - the USA also financially supported the project.

Since last October, 20 Ukrainian transport pilots have been training in the Czech Republic. Prague, Benešov and Karlovy Vary became temporary home for 17 male students and 3 female students of the National Aviation University in Kiev. They continue their studies and flight training, which cannot take place over Ukrainian territory due to the war. Their stay builds on long-standing contacts between the Faculty of Transport of CTU and the National Aviation University, the most prestigious Ukrainian school for transport pilots. Further expansion of cooperation between the two schools was made possible by funds from the government's Ukraine Assistance Program and a grant provided by the U.S. Development Program. The Ukrainian students then chose CTU themselves.

"The project has significantly supported the trilateral cooperation between CTU, the National Aviation University and F AIR spol. s r.o., which has been developed since 2021. We are pleased that thanks to this we have the capacity to use our more than 20 years of experience in training pilots in a university environment to develop the education of the National Aviation University in accordance with EU legislation," said CTU Rector Vojtěch Petráček. He also said that he was looking forward to the continuation of the programme.

The two-year training is mostly covered by the budget of the Ukraine Reconstruction Assistance Programme. The U.S. administration added CZK 10 million to the base 22 milion CZK of this budget, through the Partnership for Development Cooperation program, meant to expand the adaptation of the Kiev University teaching syllabus to EU standards. The CTU Faculty of Transportation Sciences will work with the Ukrainian university on these modifications through June of next year.
