Open-Cube was created in the Department of Measurement, with students from the Cybernetics and Robotics program behind the development. The origins were in a team project, the main firmware development was done in the framework of the bachelor theses of Jakub Vaněk and Václav Jelínek, the HW cubes are mostly the work of PhD student David Novotný. The 3D printing of the components was greatly helped by Michal Dressler. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU contributed to the project in the form of RPAPS projects in 2022 and 2023, the sponsor of the production of the pilot series of Open-Cube is the company BTL.
