Ing. Tomáš Halada from the Institute of Technical Mathematics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded 1st prize for the best diploma thesis of 2022 in the Werner von Siemens Prize competition. His thesis was supervisied by doc. Ing. Luďek Beneš, Ph.D.

In his work "Influence of boundary conditions in the SPH method", Tomáš Halada deals with boundary conditions in the network-free Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamcis (SPH) method, which is applied for example in simulations of free surface flow problems. Indeed, boundary conditions are one of the most important and still open problems of this method. In his work, Tomáš Halada tries to optimize the geometry of pumping station channels with respect to the height of the levels and thus save pump performance. These pumping stations are currently being built as part of irrigation systems in countries such as Egypt.
