Yesterday, CTU University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings in Prague signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the company Affordable Housing of Česká spořitelna with the aim of supporting its projects focused on new housing construction that will be environmentally friendly and offer affordable housing to people who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

Affordable Housing of Česká spořitelna (DBČS), together with University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB) of the CTU, has joined the consortium of the National Centre of Competence, where material, design and energy innovations will contribute to housing affordability.

"Our common goal is to accelerate the emergence of innovative solutions in energy and construction. We have identified multi-storey wooden buildings or energy-efficient building complexes as the main areas for cooperation. Both of these solutions have the potential to contribute to greater housing affordability in the near future by reducing investment and operating costs and thus respond to the current market crisis. Thanks to the newly established cooperation, we will also have the opportunity to use the feedback from Česká spořitelna to assess the financial feasibility of positive surplus energy neighbourhood concepts," says Robert Jára, Director of CTU UCEEB.

"We draw on the experience of our parent group, the Erste Group, which owns approximately 14,000 apartments in Austria and offers affordable and rent-stable housing. We also try to give Czech towns and municipalities the opportunity to support citizens who work in strategically needed professions and have a significant impact on the quality of life in their localities. We want to achieve this through cooperation with representatives of town halls, innovative construction companies, academics and other experts in the field," says Marek Blaha, Chairman of the Board of DBČS.
