The fission reactors of Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FJFI) in Troja, Prague, were visited by a delegation headed by the Finnish Minister of Economy Mika Lintilä on Tuesday 11 October 2022. The visitors were welcomed at the Department of Nuclear Reactors by Rector of CTU, doc. Vojtěch Petráček, Head of the Department Jan Rataj, Head of Reactor Operations Filip Fejt and doc. Ľubomír Sklenka, who was at the beginning of the VR-2 project development.

The Finnish Minister visited Prague as part of the events related to the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The delegation was brought to FJFI by Jiří Ondruška from the Department of Strategy, Research and International Cooperation in Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. Representatives of the Řež Research Centre also arrived and together they discussed current issues of nuclear energy.

The entire expedition then went on a tour of the school's VR-1 reactor and also saw the progress of the construction of the VR-2 reactor, which is expected to be commissioned later this year. "Of course, we also showed the minister the fuel that we received as a gift from Aalto University in Finland back in 2018, when preparations for the construction of the second school reactor were underway," explains Jan Rataj. KJR works closely with this Finnish university, whose students regularly come to Prague for a week-long course on the VR-1 reactor.
