As the 109th Rector of CTU, Vojtěch Petráček is 106th in line of term of office, counted from the academic year 1864/1865.
After taking the rector's oath, the highest university symbol - the rector's chain - and the powers associated with it were handed over to him by the President of the Academic Senate of CTU doc. Ing. Jan Janoušek, Ph.D.
In his speech, Rector Petráček mentioned that the past term of office was "challenging, complicated, but successful" for all CTU staff and students. The list of achievements included the S.A.W.E.R. system for producing water from air, awarded the highest prize at the Dubai EXPO, and the Catalyst engines developed in the university classrooms, which won the tender in an international competition and will power the European strategic drones EURODRONE. "In our internal world, we have managed to find common ground, trust, and develop cooperation between the components. On this basis, we have built a new setting for teaching and research," said Rector Petráček. In relation to the external world, he emphasized that the quality of CTU is confirmed by its constantly improving positions in international rankings, excellent results in basic, applied and collaborative research, and involvement in the Euroteq international university network.
Of course, he also talked about the pandemic of covid and Russia's current "barbaric aggression against Ukraine. We at the CTU are involved - as part of the democratic forces - in helping the attacked country and the refugees as intensively as possible."
The Rector presented his vision for the next four years, although, as he pointed out, he described his intentions for the upcoming term in his election programme, on the basis of which he was elected by the Academic Senate of CTU with a strong mandate. "The following goals are, for example, a fully internationalised bilingual environment in teaching, the development of integrated academic efforts in the UNI-T think-tank or ensuring the operation of research infrastructures and their completion," the new rector said, among other things.
This was followed by the taking of the six dean's oaths and the presentation of the six dean's chains together with the appointment decrees. On behalf of all inaugurated deans, the Dean of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of CTU doc. Ing. Václav Čuba, Ph.D., gave speech in name of the deans. The speech was also delivered by the Chairman of the CTU Board of Trustees prof. Ing. Petr Saha, CSc. and Deputy Member of the Government for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports prof. Mgr. Jaroslav Miller, MA, Ph.D.
