The project "Introduction of the Biomedical Engineering Study Program at Universities in Cambodia" was initiated by the Cambodian Ministry of Health.
To implement the Czech Development Agency project, a team from the Department of Biomedical Engineering FBMI CTU led by prof. Ing. Karel Roubik, Ph.D., was asked to participate. The team has had a very successful run of introducing this field in Colombia, South America. The new study field of Biomedical Engineering is being introduced in Phnom Penh by the University of Health Science (UHS) together with the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).
Professor Karel Roubík says, "During the project, areas and subjects have been identified where the collaborating partners are not able to providebasic and especially laboratory teaching and necessary equipment. In the first two semesters of the study program, these are mainly the subjects of fluid mechanics and hospital distribution. Our team is responsible for the preparation, implementation and material provision of the assignments in these subjects, including training of the teachers who will be involved in the teaching in Cambodia."
The project also envisages a visit of future Cambodian biomedical engineering teachers to the Czech Republic, where they will visit the laboratories of the FBMI Biomedical Engineering Department in addition to the biomedical engineering departments in other operating medical facilities.
