Students of the Faculty of Information Technology have been participating in the activities of the American non-profit company Czech-American TV since 2009 through the outputs of their final theses to improve awareness of the Czech Republic and its regions. Thanks to this, CTU FIT was the only faculty in the Czech Republic to receive an award for long-term promotion of the Czech Republic. The award was presented to the faculty by the founder of the Czech-American TV, American producer John Honner.

For intensive cooperation, the faculty was the only cooperating institution to receive an award from the founder of CATV USA, John Honner. Our students have been working closely with this organization for 11 years through their bachelor's and master's theses. They come up with technical ideas about website development. Students devised a system for streamlining broadcasting, thus contributing to the spread of the good name of the Czech Republic abroad.

CATV USA also cooperates to a lesser extent with universities in Hradec Králové, Pilsen and Brno. The public non-commercial broadcasting of this television takes the form of video documents, in which the English-speaking viewer learns a wealth of information about Czech regions, cities, monuments and gastronomy.

The contribution to the promotion of Czech culture and history to the world is exceptional and unique. Dean of FIT CTU doc. Marcel Jiřina adds: “For me, this award is proof that the faculty has capable and talented students who do their work with enthusiasm and proactively. I am proud that our faculty can contribute to the representation of the Czech Republic in the world.

One of the students who participated in the activities of CATV USA is a bachelor's student at FIT CTU, Karel Vrabec. He also received an award from John Honner for the best webmaster in CATV USA.

He says of his work: “CATV USA also has two internet radios on its website. But there is no administration for them and they face a lot of mistakes. That's why CATV USA published a new assignment for student final theses a year ago, which concerned the renovation of these two stations, "he adds:" That's why I chose the topic of my bachelor's thesis, where I programmed the web administration of these stations from scratch”

Czech-American TV has been broadcasting programs about the Czech and Moravian regions and their cultural heritage in the USA since 2003. This public and non-commercial broadcast is regularly watched on cable television by more than 2.5 million households in 60 American cities every week. And thanks to an Internet stream and broadcast in English, it reaches tens of thousands more viewers from all over the world.

"Our organization contributes to the enlightenment of the Czech Republic through other activities, such as the Czech language teaching project in the USA in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project of searching for Czech ancestors and their roots in cooperation with the State Regional Archive. cooperation with the UWB in Pilsen, "says John Honner, the founder of CATV USA, in some of the current and non-profit projects.
