Last year, the image taken in cooperation with the Department of Materials of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering with the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic won the competition of the prestigious professional journal Materials Today. It appeared on the cover of one of this year's issues of the magazine as one of ten winning images.

This issue also published a short article ‘Nucleation of corrosion products on H2 bubbles: A problem for biodegradable magnesium implants ?’. It describes more thoroughly the research in which the image capturing the growth of corrosion products on a hydrogen bubble in a simulated body solution was created. The image is connected with the research of doctoral student Karel Tesař, who focuses on the development of biodegradable magnesium implants in his dissertation thesis.

The circumstances of the image's origin and the research itself are described by Karel Tesař in a short interview published on the website of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
More photos from the competition can be found on the pages of the Materials Today magazine. This monthly magazine, published by Elsevier since 1998, seeks to comprehensively cover scientific developments in the field of materials. In addition to the main title, the family of journals also includes more focused publications such as Applied Materials Today, Materials Today Chemistry, Materials Today Energy, Materials Today Physics, Materials Today Nano, Materials Today Sustainability, Materials Today Communications and Materials Today: Proceedings.
