The Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy, was comemorised bz the Faculty of Architecture together with the Rector of the Czech Technical University, doc. Vojtěch Petráček and Dean of the faculty prof. Ladislav Lábus by lighting a candle on Národní třída and touring the new polyfunctional building called DRN on the corner of Mikulandská and Národní streets.

For a long time, the site was used as a parking lot, but it also witnessed the arrival of Soviet tanks in 1968 and police action against demonstrators in 1989. The building was completed last year, offering seven floors and a rooftop rest area. The metal construction of the facade is covered with greenery, which changes over the course of the year. Tulips will blossom from the terraces during spring, creating a shape of huge Czech flag over the building.

To gracefully commemorate and to see the crowds and celebrations of the 17th November day, more than seventy students and teachers visited the most beautiful roof garden in Prague. This year, DRN building had won the Green Roof of the Year competition in the Intensive Green Roof of the Year category. The author of the project, architect Stanislav Fiala, stated during his presentation that he placed emphasis on the quality of the newly created public space and on the effort to bring in the new playfulness of the baroque style with artistic interventions. He praised the greenery on its roof, which is missing at most of the buildings in the city center.
