The team of prof. Jiří Matas of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been working with Toyota since 2003 on the development of an autonomous car. The scope of cooperation is gradually expanding. This year sought the foundation of the Toyota Research Lab sponsored by Toyota by amount of 1 million Euro per year.

The new laboratory is a part of the network of University of Cambridge, ETH Zürich, KU Leuven, and Max-Planck Institut Saarbruecken whose algorithms are being tested around Toyota's development center based in Belgium's Zawentem. The team of prof. Matas has been cooperating with Toyota since 2003 and is now planned to continue well beyond 2020. At present, there are approximately 20 research fellows and PhD students involved in the laboratory, with 10 of them being full-time employees payed by Toyota.
