Student of the Electronics and Communications study program of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Vojtech Zethner, received award in the Futura category for his electromagnetic accelerator prototype at the presentation ceremony of the 10th annual Czech Head competition which took place on 15 November in Brno.

The new device is capable of accelerating steel projectiles. The device that can be used to facilitate testing of materials under extreme conditions, or when launching possible research satellites into orbit, consists of both high power circuits and low power devices such as timers and  optical separators.

The electromagnetic accelerator operates by using the principle of sequential solenoids. This method of steel projectile acceleration is a bit unconventional yet innovative because similar applications mostly use just one accelerating coil.
