Student of the Electronics and Communications study programme at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Marek Novák, engaged in the development of a unique meter that does not need batteries to run. It takes the form of a credit card and is charged through contact with a mobile phone. The equipment was founded as the X.GLU project start-up within the eClub, and was presented at the Pioneers 2016 conference in Vienna.

The X.GLU meter is maintenance free thanks to lack of batteries. Charging is carried out by contact with a smart phone. Measured values of the sugar level in blood of a diabetic are also saved there. NFC technology provides power to the device and communication with the smart phone. It also supports secure transfer of data between the devices. Besides its practical size, another advantage of the X.GLU is continuous data collection and storage in the cloud. This allows the patient and doctor to have continuous access to monitored data.

Pharmaceutical companies had already showed interest in the device. Its introduction to the market is planned in 2 year horizon. Its production cost is half, compared to other similiar devices.

Servers Týden.czČeskéNoviny.cz, Novinky.cz and iHNed.cz also informed about the X.GLU startup.
